Asbury Park: Riot, Redemption, Rock & Roll

The history of the long-troubled town of Asbury Park, as well as how the power of music can bring together a community that has been split apart. Asbury Park, a once-famous beach resort, caught fire during a summer of social upheaval, paralyzing the town for the following 45 years and bringing it to a condition of urban blight in the process. The riot wiped off the legendary jazz and blues scene on the Westside of the city, but out of the ashes of the burning city came the distinctive sound of Jersey. The city was literally divided by a pair of railroad tracks.
