Black Magic for White Boys
At a small theater in New York, an old magician comes up with a wicked plan to use real black magic to save a piece of old New York. In Onur Tukel's latest film, BLACK MAGIC FOR WHITE BOYS, which is a strange comedy about gentrification, race, and bodily autonomy in New York City, harsh realities and fantastic illusions come together. With over 50 minutes of new footage, Tukel has completely reworked a project that was first shown at Tribeca in 2017 as a four-episode series into a gnarly and charmingly weird dark comedy. This is a small, low-budget story about the changing face of New York City. It has a good mix of edgy misanthropy and silly sweetness.
