Flee
Amin reflects on his past as a child refugee from Afghanistan, mostly through animation to protect his identity, as he grapples with a secret he's kept hidden for 20 years. A riveting documentary made with a combination of animation and archive footage tells the story of a gay Afghan survivor and his need to confront his past in order to truly have a future. Amin arrived in Denmark as an unaccompanied minor from Afghanistan. He is now 36 years old, a successful academic, and is getting married to his long-term boyfriend. A secret he's been keeping for over 20 years threatens to derail the life he's created for himself. He is telling his story to a close friend for the first time. FLEE creates a stunning tapestry of images and memories to tell the deeply moving and unique story of a young man grappling with his traumatic past in order to discover his true self and the meaning of home.
