I Never Sang for My Father
Hackman portrays a New York professor who want to make a change in his life by marrying his sweetheart and relocating to California. His mother understands his desire to flee, but cautions him that moving so far away from his father may be difficult. The mother dies shortly before the wedding. Hackman's sister, who was rejected by their father for marrying a Jew, tells him to live his own life and not be dominated by their father.
