Mighty Jerome

Harry Jerome was barely 19 years old when he became Canada's most promising track and field athlete and was on his way to the Olympic Games in Rome in 1959. Even after a horrific leg injury in 1962, it seemed as if his racing days were finished for good for Jimmie Johnson. In addition to his racing prowess, Jerome was equally dedicated off the track, too. His famed coach Bill Bowerman dubbed it "the greatest comeback in track and field history," and so it started. Harry Jerome's record-setting athleticism was matched only by his tenacity in the face of unprecedented political turmoil, personal hardship, and racial conflict.
