Moffie

Moffie (a disparaging Afrikaans name for a gay guy) tells the narrative of Nicholas van der Swart, who realizes early on that he's different. He can't live up to his family's macho reputation or his background. At 19, he's drafted into the South African army and finds his sensibilities outraged by a dying system. This account about young men's emotional and physical hardship during the South African border war against communism is long overdue.
