Remember the Sultana
Over 2000 Union soldiers, guests and team were crammed aboard the boat Sultana, certified to bring 376. Graft, greed, congestion, an inadequately kept boat, and also the Mississippi River was swollen with springtime snowmelt conspired together to create a catastrophe. On April 27, 1865, the watercraft's central heating boilers took off, creating the most awful maritime disaster in United States background.
