Royal Opera House: The Sleeping Beauty
The Resting Elegance holds a special location in The Royal Dancing's repertory. It was the ballet with which the Firm reopened the Royal Concert hall in 1946 after The Second World War, its very first production at its new home in Covent Garden. Margot Fonteyn danced the function of the lovely Princess Aurora in the sneak preview, with Robert Helpmann as Prince Florimund. Sixty years later, in 2006, the original 1946 staging was restored by then Director of The Royal Dancing Monica Mason and also Christopher Newton, returning Oliver Messel's wonderful layouts and also glimmering outfits to the stage.
