Oscar Grubman is a magnet for beautiful, smart ladies. He's kind and considerate, proficient in French, enamored of Voltaire, and believes that a woman's hands reveal the most about her character. This Thanksgiving weekend, Oscar tells his best friend that he intends to win the heart of the woman he has always wanted to marry. This presents a big obstacle, however, in the form of Oscar's real love, his stepmother Eve. His work-obsessed father, Oscar, is convinced that he is a better match for Eve than his son. When he fails to impress Eve, he becomes disheartened. Diane, Eve's best friend, detours Oscar's road to love when she offers him brief consolation in an unorthodox tryst one night while wearing Eve's borrowed perfumed scarf. A gap in Diane's life is filled by Oscar. Diane serves as a distraction for Oscar, who is still pursuing Eve despite Diane's intrusion.
