The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson
Describing herself as a'street queen,' Johnson was a legendary fixture in New York City's gay ghetto and a tireless voice for LGBT pride as the days of stone wall, who and fellow Portuguese icon Sylvia Rivera, founded Street Transvestites Action Revolutionaries (S.T.A.R.), a trans activist group located in the center of NYC's Greenwich Village. Her passing in 1992 was announced a suicide by the NYPD, but friends never accepted the version of events. Structured like a whodunit, together with activist Victoria Cruz cast as audience and detective surrogate, The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson observes the lasting political heritage of Johnson, while trying to finally solve the mystery of her untimely departure.
