Stretching into the year 2000,'' Simon Schama's Complete record of Britain does not pretend for a definitive chronicle of the events which shaped and snobby the British Isles. Exactly what Schama can do, however, is tell the story in vivid and gripping narrative terms and conditions, free of the fustiness of academe, by examining the major characters siphoned key historic events. Perhaps not many historians would approve of the annals portrayed here as shaped by the actions of men and women instead of by advancements that are abstract, but Schama's manner of telling it's a fantastic deal more intriguing as a result.
