Asia – Secret Lives, Hidden Places
People and animals share the same backyard in some of the most beautiful national parks in Asia, but this fact is often hidden from tourists. In contrast to the wildlife preserves found in North America and Europe, the various endangered ecosystems found in Asia almost invariably include human inhabitants as well as native animals. This series investigates how humans and other creatures coexist and find ways to stay alive. Learn about the gentle Shinto people who have figured out how to live in the shadow of an active volcano, a tribal man who cares for orphan elephants by day while wild elephants threaten his village every night, and how the spirits of a tropical island off the coast of Borneo stopped a local Imam from cutting down the rainforest. All of these stories and more can be found in the documentary "The Spirits of Borneo." From the river plains of India to the granite peaks of China's holy mountains, one-horned rhinoceroses, Asiatic elephants, Guizhou golden monkeys, and a multitude of other animal characters inhabit the regions of Asia. The end product is an amalgamation of outstanding narratives, captivating individuals, and unusual and endangered flora and fauna set against a dramatic and breathtaking landscape.
