Maude

CBS aired Maude, an American sitcom, from September12, 1972 through April22,1978, when the show was first telecast on the network. It's Maude Findlay, an opinionated middle-aged woman who lives in suburban Tuckahoe, New York, with her fourth husband and the owner of a household appliance store. Maude was a staunch supporter of women's rights, a consistent Democratic Party voter, and an outspoken defender of civil rights, equality for women, minorities, and other marginalized groups. With these concerns she often found herself in hot water because of her aggressive and often domineering demeanor. When Beatrice Arthur initially appeared as Edith Bunker's cousin Maude on the original All in the Family, the show's creator, Norman Lear, commissioned Maude as a spin-off. For a U.S. sitcom, Maude and Walter were the only two characters featured in multiple half-hour "two-hander" episodes. It was Bea Arthur's solo episode in Season4, "The Analyst," where she delivered an episode-long monologue to an unseen psychotherapist.
