The World at War
The World at War is a 26-part British television documentary series about the events of World War II. It was the most costly series ever made at the time of its completion in 1973, costing £900,000. Jeremy Isaacs produced it, Laurence Olivier narrated it, and Carl Davis created the score. Mark Arnold-Forster wrote The World at War, which was published in 1973 to match the TV series. The World at War has received critical acclaim since its completion and is now recognized as a watershed moment in British television history. Following its completion, and with the Second World War still fresh in many people's memories, producer Jeremy Isaacs was regarded ahead of his time in rejuvenating military history courses. The series concentrated on portraying the catastrophic human experiences of the war, including how life and death affected soldiers, sailors and airmen, civilians, sad victims of tyranny, and concentration camp inmates.
