Saki Hasemi is the author of the Japanese manga series To Love-Ru, and Kentaro Yabuki, best known for creating Black Cat, is the illustrator for the series. Between April 24, 2006 and August 31, 2009, the manga was published in serial form in the manga magazine Weekly Shnen Jump published by Shueisha. Since then, a total of 18 tankobon volumes have been released in Japan. In February of 2008, a drama CD containing an original plot was made available for purchase. Xebec adapted the manga into a 26-episode anime series that was shown in Japan between April and September of 2008. Xebec is responsible for the production of six original episodes of video animation between the months of April 2009 and April 2010. Between the months of October and December in 2010, Xebec broadcast the second season of their show, named Motto To-Love Ru, which consisted of 12 episodes. In August of 2008, a video game was made available for the Nintendo DS, and in October of that same year, a game was made available for the PlayStation Portable. On October 4, 2010, a continuation of the manga titled To Love-Ru Darkness began to be published in serial form in the magazine Jump Square published by Shueisha. In October of 2012, the To-Love Ru Darkness anime television series adaptation, which was produced by Xebec and began airing, received its first episode. The word "trouble" is translated from the English gairaigo, and the word "love" is a loanword from the English language. The phrase "love problem" was used as a pun for the title of the series because it represents the harem part of the story.
