Ny, albany, Halloween, 1938. Helen Archer and francis Phelan are all bumsback in their own birth city. She was a singer on the radio, he also a major league pitcher. Death surrounds them: she's sick, a pal has cancer, so he also and the grave of his infant son whom he dropped digs graves in the Peninsula and visit. Dreams of his past haunt him he killed.
