The Square
The Square, a new film by Jehane Noujaim (Control Room. Rafea: Solar Mama), discusses the hard realities confronted daily by people working to create Egypt's new democracy. Catapulting us into the action spread across 2012 and 2011, the film provides a kaleidoscopic connection with this struggle. Cairo's Tahrir Square is the center and soul of the movie, which follows a few young activists. Armed with plenty of media that is social, enthusiasm, music, humor, values, and obstinacy, they know that the thorny path to democracy began with the fall of Hosni Mubarek. The struggle between the power of their state and the people is still playing out.
