Without Anesthesia
A well-known Polish journalist creates a dilemma for the powers-that-be when he exhibits his complete political ability and expertise on a television show featuring questions and answers from a panel of journalists about a world conference. When he is absent, his adversaries deprive him of privileges. The shock of being "unwanted" reflects a more serious disappointment in his personal life: his wife is having an affair with a jealous young rival and is seeking a divorce after 15 years of marriage and two daughters. She makes no attempt to explain herself as he attempts to resolve these issues on his own. His every move is a mistake. He engages in heavy drinking with students anxious to attend his seminar following the class's cancellation. Once suave and forceful, the journalist has been reduced to quiet.
