Abacus: Small Enough to Jail

The remarkable story of the Chinese immigrant Sung family, proprietors of Chinatown's Abacus Federal Savings. Abacus becomes the only bank in the United States to face criminal charges in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis, after being charged with mortgage fraud by Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr. The indictment and following trial require the Sung family to defend themselves–and their bank's legacy in the Chinatown neighborhood — throughout a five-year court battle.
