Into the Woods
Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods mixes together a number of well-known fairy tales to create an allegorical story about family, love, growing up, and the murky line between right and wrong. Timothy Sheader directed this play, which was shot live by Digital Theatre at London's Regent's Park Open Air theatre. The Brothers Grimm's stories are given a dark and hilarious twist in Into the Woods. The popular tales of Red Ridinghood, Jack (of the Beanstalk renown), Cinderella, and Rapunzel are entwined with the story of the Baker and his Wife and their yearning for childbirth. However, this retelling goes beyond "happily ever after," as familiar characters encounter unusual circumstances and their goals and dreams are questioned and reconsidered.
