On 3 April 2004, during the break of Ashurarebels loyal to Shiite leader Muktada As-Sadr, established an insurgency. Even the Poles, along with Bulgarian soldiers and Iraqi authorities, were given the task of defending City Hall, led by lieutenant-colonel Grzegorz Kaliciak. The clash developed as World War II to the greatest engagement. Although about 80 insurgents were murdered in a counter attack not just a single allied soldier expired.
