King of the Children

An unschooled boy, one of the numerous victims of Mao's Cultural Transformation, is labouring in the countryside when he is instantly assigned to show in a near-by village institution. Slowly, he discovers the self-confidence to ditch the Maoist textbook and encourage the barely literate kids to write about their own lives and also sensations. At the same time, through a collection of dream-like meetings with a young cowherd, he begins to pick up the possibilities of a life past the specifications of traditional education and learning.
