Larceny
John Payne is a scumbag who attempts to profit from post-war patriotism and sorrow. He convinces Joan Caulfied, a war widow, to donate her life savings to a memorial that does not exist. When Payne falls in love with the widow, he experiences pangs of guilt, but he does not account for his con-artist boss (Dan Duryea), who tends to bolster his arguments with brute force and firearms.
