North Korea: A Day in the Life
It's no coincidence that this film's urban settings and patriotic soundtrack are so different from Seoul Train's desolate backdrop. This propaganda film, directed by Dutch filmmaker Pieter Fleury with the full collaboration of the North Korean government, provides an intriguing look at life in one of the world's most mysterious nations. The North Korean film bureau heavily influenced the plot of A Day in the Life, which depicts a regular North Korean family going about their daily activities while singing praises to the North Korean nation of comrades and the grandeur of General Kim Jong Il. This movie is supposed to be a celebration of modern North Korea. Does it, though? Since there is no dialogue in Fleury's film, the audience may draw different conclusions than the director.
