Pocketful of Miracles
Damon Runyon's fairytale, funny and sweet, is told by director Frank Capra. Boozy, brassy Apple Annie, a beggar using a basket of apples, can be as much as part of downtown nyc as old Broadway itself. Bootlegger Dave the Dude can be just a sucker on the apples -- he believes they bring him fortune. But Dave and girlfriend Queenie Martin need far more than luck when it ends up that Annie is in a jam and just they can help: Annie's daughter Louise, who's lived her life in a Spanish convent, is visiting America having a Count along with his own son. The kid of the count wishes to marry Louise, that believes her mother is section of New York society. It's around Queenie and Dave along with their cronies to show Annie to a lady and convince the Count and his son that they are hobnobbing using the elite of New York.
