The Reluctant Debutante

Welcoming Jimmy and Sheila Broadbent to London Jane, aged seventeen, is Jimmy's daughter. Jane is a descendant of Jimmy's first marriage to an American and has traveled to visit her father and an unknown stepmother. While she is in town, Sheila comes up with the notion of making Jane a debutante, which Jane strongly opposes. Difficulties include Jane's apathy toward being put on the marriage market, Sheila's cousin Mabel Claremont's determined efforts to win wealthy David Fenner for her debutante daughter Clarissa, and Jane's attraction to David Parkson, an American drummer who plays in the orchestra at the coming-out balls.
