The Unseen

It breaks Gemma and Will's heart when their son dies in a car accident. Gemma blames herself and has panic attacks that make it hard for her to see, as well as hard for the audience to see. Angry, Will thinks he can hear his son's voice calling to him. Gemma suggests that they take Paul up on his offer to stay at his country home in the Lake District. This will help them get over their sadness. Ex-pharmacist Paul helps Gemma try to stop her panic attacks with medicine. Can't hear his son in the bedroom at home, Will antagonizes Paul and then goes home. Gemma is now completely dependent on Paul, who seems to have real feelings for her. We see all of these things in Gemma's story: love, grief, and how fragile we are as a species. There is a downward spiral into violence for Will and Paul, both in their minds and in their bodies.
