Daniel Deronda
Andrew Davies adapted the George Eliot novel Daniel Deronda into a British television serial drama entitled Daniel Deronda. The series was directed by Tom Hooper, produced by Louis Marks, and first shown on BBC One from 23 November to 7 December2002, in three parts. Hugh Dancy portrayed Daniel Deronda, Romola Garai portrayed Gwendolen Harleth, Hugh Bonneville portrayed Henleigh Grandcourt, and Jodhi May portrayed Mirah Lapidoloth in the television series. WGBH Boston provided financing for the co-production. Louis Marks intended to develop a film adaptation of the novel, but abandoned the project after a protracted and failed casting process. The television adaptation of the drama took an additional five years. May through August, eleven weeks of filming took place in England, Scotland, and Malta. The serial was Marks' last television work before his death in 2010.
