The Hakkenden

The Hakkenden is an OVA show by AIC in just two sequences, the second largest Shinsh?. A TV series sequel, Shin Hakkenden, aired in 1999. The anime is based on the epic book Nans? Satomi Hakkenden composed by Kyokutei Bakin through the latter half of the Edo Period. In 106 volumes, the novel conveys the distinction of becoming the longest novel in Japanese literature. The Hakkenden is most known for its unique way of cartoon, shifting between distinct visual styles all through the duration of this sequence. The show has been also noted for its heavy usage of topics and imagery, allowing the series to straddle the line between art and cartoon. It's also famous for introducing a perspective to a literary classic, yet as notions like devotion and loyalty are tightly inspected and reexamined during many of the battles in the story. Even the"THE" at the front of the title isn't, in reality, a continuation of translation, however, an actual part of the title written in English, perhaps preferred by the series' authors to intentionally express that feeling of modernity.
