The New Archies

The New Archies is a children's television program that is based on the Archie comic books and characters that have been around for a very long time. The series, which was produced by DIC Entertainment and originally aired on NBC, recast the teenage students of Riverdale High School as pre-teens attending Riverdale Junior High School. This included Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, Jughead Jones, and Reggie Mantle, among other characters. The show consisted of a total of fourteen episodes, all of which were initially broadcast during the show's one and only season in 1987 and then aired again in 1989. An Archie Comics series with the same name and the same universe as the animated series was produced, but it was canceled after just a few issues were published. Reruns of the show were broadcast on the Saturday morning lineup of The Family Channel from 1991 to1993, and then on Toon Disney from 1998 to 2002. Veronica, the protagonist of this series, has a typical Californian accent. On the other hand, in earlier animated cartoons and episodes of the radio show, she spoke with a southern drawl. An African American man called Eugene took over the role of the "intellectual" character formerly held by Dilton Doiley. Another new member of the cast was Amani, who played Eugene's girlfriend. Archie also got a new pet, a dog named Red.
