The Ren & Stimpy Show
The Ren & Stimpy Show was created by Canadian animator John Kricfalusi. The show debuted on Nickelodeon alongside Rugrats and Doug on August 11, 1991. Ren Höek, an emotionally troubled chihuahua, and Stimpson J. Cat are the main characters. Five seasons were broadcast. Some reviewers credit it with paving the path for satirical animated shows like Beavis and Butthead and South Park and playing a crucial influence in television animation. The Ren & Stimpy Show's off-color comedy, sexual innuendo, and violence led to disputes with Nickelodeon's Standards and Practices department. Ren & Stimpy "Adult Party Cartoon" debuted on Spike in 2003 but was quickly discontinued.
