Witchblade

Witchblade is an anime series based on the same-named American comic book series. Rather of adapting the original plot, the producers chose to develop an entirely new setting and cast of characters. The Witchblade franchise's rights were licensed for release in the United States, thanks to a collaboration between Japanese studio Gonzo and American publisher Top Cow. In January2008, IFC, a US cable network, broadcasted the English dub for the first time. The series premiered on IFC on June13,2008, at 3:30 a.m. ET on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. On Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, the show is also accessible on a pay-per-download basis. Amazon's Unbox service also offers the first twelve episodes for download. Netflix Instant Stream also has the show accessible. It was available on Hulu for free as of June 2011. There were six volumes on DVD available in the United States and Canada as of December2008, with Volume 1 released in September 2007. A full boxed collection with all 24 episodes plus an extra disc with bonus features is also available. On November3,2009, a Blu-ray box set was published. Yoshimitsu Ohashi directed the anime, and Uno Makoto, the character designer for Stellvia and Love Hina, created the characters.
